Francisco Vicente Aguilera was a Cuban landowner, possibly the richest on the eastern region of Cuba. He inherited his land and wealth from his father, but owing to his studies and travels, had ideas against a monarch system, against slavery and was preoccupied about the life conditions of his countrymen.

Aguilera participated in the first Cuban uprisings towards gaining independence from the colonial regime, and he spent most of his fortune supporting the revolutionary movement.
