This coin is riddled with chop marks on both the obverse and reverse due to its use in the Orient. The chop marks were used by Chinese merchants to validate the weight, authenticity, and silver content of the coin. Each merchant had its own mark to identify which merchants had validated the coin; a practice that lasted until 1933.
**Please note, what appears to be a scratch at the 1-2 o'clock area is actually a bit of debris, not damage on the coin.**
